A Southampton builder is preparing to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest single male hair donation — a challenge he never planned to take on.
Jack Drever, 37, hasn’t cut his hair in over seven years. What began as a preference from his ex-partner has grown into a possible world record. Now, he is just one haircut away from achieving it.
“I don’t have an exact date, but it’s been seven years since I cut my hair,” Jack said. “My ex-partner liked it long, so I let it grow. Before that, I always had a short back and sides.”
Jack, who works for Rosewood Building Services, originally planned to cut his hair without much fanfare. But his business partner, Lewis Bowers, saw an opportunity to turn it into something meaningful.
“Jack wasn’t sure about it, so I set up a JustGiving page,” Lewis explained. “We started it Saturday afternoon, and by Sunday, we had raised £600. Our goal is £1,000.”
All funds raised will go to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real-hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer or other conditions. Each wig costs between £700 and £800 to make.
“We wanted to raise enough so they could use my hair and have enough to cover the cost of a wig,” Jack said.
Jack, from Botley, will cut his hair on December 9 at Jemma George Hair Artistry in Chandlers Ford. His sister recently measured his hair at over 85cm, which would surpass the current male donation record of 83cm set in 2023.
To make the record official, a Guinness World Record adjudicator will need to be present at the haircut. Still, Jack says the attention is not what motivates him.
“The spotlight isn’t really my thing,” he said. “But we’re doing it for a good cause. If I have to feel a bit uncomfortable to raise money, then so be it.”
