Spencer Pratt is standing firmly by his wife, Heidi Montag, after she faced backlash for her red carpet look at the 2025 American Music Awards.
Montag, 38, surprised fans when she appeared at the event with a short blonde bob — a major shift from her usual long hairstyle. The bold new look sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users criticizing her wig choice.
One TikTok comment read, “I love love love her, but you should’ve stopped that wig.” In response, Pratt, 41, posted a photo of Montag in her sparkling blue outfit by THE BLONDS and took a lighthearted approach.
“Only 3 days — if you love her, buy the Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future,” he wrote. “Fancy wigs cost like $20k. Ask Beyoncé.”
Heidiwood, Montag’s upcoming album, is set to release on May 30 and is available for pre-order and pre-save now.
Pratt also took to Instagram to defend his wife. He shared a video from the AMAs with the caption, “For the wig haters please pre-order Heidiwood now so that future wigs have more budget .”
The support didn’t end there. In another TikTok clip, Pratt addressed a Page Six article with the headline: “Heidi Montag dragged for wearing ‘world’s worst’ wig to AMAs 2025: ‘From Party City.’”
He explained that high-quality wigs come with a steep price tag. “We don’t have a $20,000 wig budget,” he said. “So it’s a cute little wig for the money we can afford. It was just supposed to be a fun little ‘Oh look at the wig.’ And it worked, I guess.”
Pratt added that he and Montag — who share two sons, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2 — hope to one day have “Beyoncé money” to spend on such looks. Still, he expressed gratitude for the attention and support his wife received.
“I’m so thankful that so many people care about Heidi and want her to look the best she possibly can on a red carpet,” he said. “A lot of people loved the wig, so it’s all good.”
Montag also spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the AMAs, explaining her style choice. “We just thought we’d switch it up a little bit and keep it fresh,” she said. “I’ve never done this, so it’s very exciting — just a moment.”
