Kanah Flex is experiencing more than just new hair growth—his head has swollen dramatically following a recent hair transplant. The dancer and artist revealed that he underwent the procedure on January 16 at a London clinic, one reportedly favored by some celebrities.
Known for being discovered by FKA Twigs and Aaron Sillis while busking in 2014, Kanah shared updates on TikTok about his hair journey. However, his post-surgery look sparked a flood of humorous comments comparing him to cartoon characters such as Megamind, Roger from American Dad, and Squidward from Spongebob.
Kanah took the jokes in stride, even joining in on the fun himself. “I know I’m looking crazy, but trust the process,” he told followers. “Right now, I’m looking like an alien.”
In a follow-up video, he clarified details about the transplant, emphasizing that the procedure was done locally in Wembley, London—not in Turkey as some might assume. He arrived at the clinic early, had a consultation, and discussed his needs with the doctor. The focus was mainly on his crown area rather than his hairline.
“My hairline was actually alright,” Kanah said. “It was mainly my crown and donor area. I got 4,000 grafts done, which means 8,000 hairs implanted.” He chose not to lower his hairline to avoid needing more grafts and risking less hair density on top.
Before surgery, Kanah got a buzz cut, something he was excited about since he had never seen himself bald. During the procedure, he received multiple anesthesia injections, causing his head to swell noticeably. “I could feel my head swelling like a balloon,” he recalled, “but after a while, I stopped feeling it.”
The swelling hasn’t completely gone down yet. Kanah has been wearing a headband since the surgery to keep the swelling from spreading to his face and eyes. This is a common practice to reduce bleeding and fluid buildup after a hair transplant.
Dr. Emrah Cinik, a hair transplant surgeon in Turkey, explained that such swelling, called oedema, is normal and usually not a health risk. It typically fades within a few days and is a sign the body is healing. He advises seeing a healthcare professional if swelling persists or worsens.
In his latest update on January 19, Kanah joked that the swelling was reaching his eyes and said, “I look like I just did ten rounds with Mike Tyson.”
Fans are hoping the swelling subsides soon and that Kanah’s new hair is worth the temporary discomfort.
