Sebastian Stan’s recent bald look, seen during the Thunderbolts press tour, isn’t just a bold style choice — it’s for a movie role. While fans are used to seeing the actor with Bucky Barnes’ signature hair, Stan revealed he shaved his head for a film project in Norway.
Speaking to Extra TV at the Thunderbolts premiere in Los Angeles, Stan explained the transformation. “I just finished a movie in Norway called Fjord, and I did it for that,” he said. “I just got here literally two days ago. So, my jet lag is pretty interesting right now. It makes this experience even more trippy.”
Fjord is an upcoming English-language drama from Romanian director Cristian Mungiu. The film tells the story of two families in a remote Norwegian village whose lives become intertwined in a tense relationship. Stan, who is Romanian himself, plays a Romanian expatriate living in Norway.
When asked about the benefits of being bald, the actor joked, “It’s amazing [for getting ready in the morning]. Also, you feel a cool breeze on the back of your neck. It’s not too bad.” He also laughed off a question about his girlfriend Annabelle Wallis’ opinion on the look, saying, “She’s seen a lot worse, don’t worry.”
With Thunderbolts now in theaters and Fjord wrapped, fans are curious whether Stan will grow his hair back for his return as Bucky Barnes in Avengers: Doomsday. Although he’s worn a wig in the role before, some speculate the look may continue in future Marvel films if he stays bald.
For now, audiences can catch Stan as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts, while looking forward to his dramatic turn in Fjord — and whatever hairstyle he brings to the screen next.
