Karol G Opens Up in Netflix Doc About Love, Pain, and Perseverance

by lily

Karol G is pulling back the curtain on her personal and professional journey in the new Netflix documentary Mañana Fue Bonito, which premieres May 8. The film follows the Colombian superstar’s rise from a young girl in Medellín to an international music sensation—and reveals the challenges she faced along the way.

The documentary shares the same name as her Grammy-winning 2023 album Mañana Será Bonito (“Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful”), her most personal work to date. The album opens with raw lyrics: “Give me time / Because I’m not in my best moment / But I’m getting better little by little.” These words set the tone for a project that reflected heartbreak, growth, and healing.

In the documentary, directed by Cristina Costantini (Mucho, Mucho Amor), Karol G reflects on both career highs and personal lows. While the singer was breaking records—becoming the first Latina to headline a global stadium tour—she was also recovering from a public breakup that deeply affected her.

“Love can make you feel like the happiest person on Earth,” she says in the film, “but at the same time it can destroy you, your dreams, your whole world… everything you are.”

The film also shows Karol’s healing process through her music, which many fans found relatable and empowering. “I healed in front of my fans,” she told TODAY.com. “They don’t always have the words, but they can feel through my music, my story. And I love that.”

Karol also speaks about her current relationship with fellow Colombian singer Feid, calling it “healthy” and “a blessing.” She shared that they understand each other deeply because of their shared experience in the music industry.

Opening up about her love life was difficult, she admitted, especially after the highly public breakup she previously endured. But it wasn’t the hardest part of the documentary to share.

The most painful moment, she reveals, was speaking for the first time about why she nearly quit music in 2012. At just 16 years old, a manager made unwanted advances toward her. The experience left her disillusioned, and she moved to New York to study business and English, thinking her music career was over.

Now, with Mañana Fue Bonito the documentary, Karol G is using her platform not just to celebrate success, but to show the strength it takes to overcome personal pain and keep going.
