When Gordon Logan moved to Georgetown in the mid-1980s, he ran several hair salons in Austin. While business was steady, he saw a gap in the market.
“No one in the beauty salon industry was focusing on men and boys,” Logan said. “Back then, salons often said ‘men welcome,’ but it wasn’t a comfortable place for us.”
In 1993, Logan launched the first Sport Clips Haircuts, a sports-themed salon dedicated to haircuts for men and boys.
Now, over 30 years later, Sport Clips has grown into an international franchise with nearly 300 salons in Texas and about 1,900 locations across all 50 states. The salons offer haircuts, styling, beard trims, and detailing for men of all ages, with appointments or walk-ins.
Clients enjoy watching sports on TV, a neck and shoulder massage, and a steamed towel treatment during their visit.
“Our focus from the start has been the experience,” Logan said. “Most men don’t look forward to haircuts, so we make it easy and comfortable.”
Each salon features reclining chairs and European-style shampoo bowls for better comfort for clients and stylists. Sport Clips’ headquarters remain in Georgetown.
Logan has supported many local groups, including the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown, Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center, Ride On Center for Kids, and the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation, where he serves on the board.
In 2023, Sport Clips donated $1 million to the Central Texas YMCA to help build new facilities in Georgetown. “People want to support companies that give back,” Logan said. “Giving back will always be part of our culture.”
In 2020, Logan’s son, Edward, became president and CEO of Sport Clips, while Gordon now focuses on charitable work as chairman.
Recently, Sport Clips partnered with barbershop owner Frank Gambuzza to open three upscale locations in Round Rock, Cedar Park, and South Austin. More Gambuzza’s Barbershop sites may open, though none are planned yet.
