Jessica Hernandez grew up in a family of barbers and learned the importance of quality service early on. Over the past four years, she has taken that knowledge to a new level by running Sharpline Men’s Hair Studio.
Before opening Sharpline in 2019, Hernandez worked as a barber at Sport Clips. She felt limited by the chain’s restricted services and wanted to offer more creative options through her own business. “I like to push myself, so I wanted to see what I can do for myself while giving stylists the chance to grow,” she said.
Though Sharpline mainly serves men, most of its barbers are women. Hernandez hired former coworkers to join her team from the start. She explained that many women barbers at chains don’t get to use razors or offer extra services. “Most of my girls were getting burnt out with just doing haircuts,” she said. “They wanted to explore who they are as barbers.”
Clients travel from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area to visit Sharpline. While the salon welcomes women’s haircuts, the male-focused environment helps customers feel like they are in a private space. Hernandez hopes to expand Sharpline to other DFW locations in the coming years to reduce travel times for clients. “I just want to do something for [my guests], since they’ve been driving all the way over here to see us,” she said.
Sharpline offers more than haircuts. The salon also provides grooming services such as waxing, beard trimming, and facial massages, Hernandez added.
