May 18, 2025 — Tennis icon Serena Williams turned heads at the 2025 Met Gala with a stunning icy-blue gown and a bold new hairstyle, marking her seventh appearance at fashion’s biggest night.
This year’s gala followed the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion. Williams embraced the theme with a modern Cinderella-style outfit that blended elegance with powerful tailoring.
Her gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, a sheer panel over the legs, a flowing column skirt, and a dramatic train. Draping details and a tufted silver satin cape added extra flair. She completed the regal look with Fred Leighton diamond earrings, a wing-shaped hair barrette, and Roger Vivier shoes.
Williams also made a beauty statement with glowing makeup, including powder-blue eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and glossy lips. But the biggest surprise came from her hair. She debuted a short rose-gold bob styled in vintage finger waves — a striking change from the long honey-blonde curls she wore just last month.
Joking on X, she wrote, “And one meltdown later we are finally on the way to the Met Gala,” showing her usual humor behind the glamour.
Over the years, Williams has become a Met Gala regular. She last appeared in 2024 wearing a gold Balenciaga gown for the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme. That look featured black opera gloves, pointed heels, and a cascade of blonde hair decorated with gold barrettes.
This year’s event was co-chaired by stars including Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Anna Wintour, and LeBron James. The accompanying exhibit showcases influential Black designers such as Virgil Abloh and Grace Wales Bonner.
