NEW YORK CITY – Renée Zellweger has joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building and is turning heads with a striking new look. The Oscar-winning actress, long known for her signature dirty blonde hair, was recently spotted in New York with bright red shoulder-length locks, softly curled and styled with a side part.
The dramatic change sparked speculation about whether the hairstyle is a wig or a permanent transformation. Neither Zellweger nor the show’s team has confirmed.
Zellweger is among several high-profile guest stars set to appear in Season 5 of the hit Hulu series. She joins Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, and Keegan-Michael Key in the upcoming season. Details about Zellweger’s role remain under wraps, and spokespeople have not commented on her character.
Production for the new season began in late March. The series, which stars Selena Gomez, Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Meryl Streep, has been praised by critics since its 2021 debut. It has won seven Emmy Awards, including honors for production design, sound mixing, and music composition.
Last year, Gomez described Season 4 as “our most exciting season yet.” Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “Everyone had a blast. And people are in for a ride, you know. Taking us to L.A. and then doing all the other stuff is exciting.”
Though she’s better known for her film work, Zellweger has embraced the small screen with enthusiasm. Reflecting on a past character — widely believed to be Bridget Jones — she said, “I love how open she is. I love her physicality. I love that she walks like a good person and she’s open to everything… and I love that she doesn’t meet anybody’s standard idea about beauty or success, but she triumphs anyway by forging her own path.”
