Alex Jones surprised fans at the BAFTAs by trading her signature lob for long, flowing locks. The presenter revealed the transformation on Instagram before stepping onto the red carpet, posting a behind-the-scenes look from her styling session at Mayfive Salon. “The transformation for #baftas starts,” she captioned the video, showing off her new glamorous look.
The makeover was created by Katie Allan, founder of Mayfive Salon, who described the look as “bohemian,” drawing inspiration from music icon Stevie Nicks. Jones’ new hairstyle featured soft curtain bangs and temporary extensions, paired with a subtle color refresh of rich brunette tones and soft caramel highlights.
Allan explained that the color treatment happened a few days earlier, simply refreshing Jones’ existing shade. The final style was achieved using clip-in wefts from Milk and Blush. “I sectioned off clean, smooth dried hair, starting at the nape in horizontal layers,” Allan shared. She added a styling dust to help the clips stay secure, and removed some weight from Jones’ naturally thick hair for a more seamless blend.
Despite the dramatic change, Jones confirmed the long locks were only temporary. In an Instagram caption, she joked: “It takes a village to get ready for a night like this… and even then the thought of the red carpet still makes me feel sick! It was fun to grow my hair long for one night only .”
The transformation took place over several days, but thanks to clip-in extensions, the style was easy to remove post-event—a practical choice for the busy mum of three.
