Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, concluded a week of VE Day celebrations with a stylish touch. The 43-year-old royal attended a special concert at Horse Guards Parade in London on Thursday evening, May 8, marking the final event of the U.K.’s week-long tributes to the end of World War II in Europe.
Alongside Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla, Princess Kate joined an audience of 12,000. Before the concert began, the royals chatted with attendees, including U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and several special guests, including war veterans and Londoners who had been evacuated as children during the war.
Throughout the evening, Princess Kate and Prince William shared smiles, waving miniature Union Jack flags as they enjoyed the music. For the event, Kate wore an all-white outfit, featuring a structured blazer and a feminine skirt. She completed the look with a five-strand pearl necklace, statement earrings, and an oversized black bow in her hair, accentuating her half-up hairstyle.
This is not the first time Kate has used hair bows as a stylish accessory. She has worn them before to enhance ponytails and other hairstyles. Her daughter, Princess Charlotte, has also been known for wearing bows in her younger years, although the 10-year-old royal now prefers low ponytails and side braids.
Kate’s love for bows extends beyond her hair. She often adds them to her dresses to refresh her wardrobe. For instance, in June 2024, she added a striped statement bow to a previously worn Jenny Packham dress for the Trooping the Colour appearance, giving the outfit a fresh look.
Fashion director Bethan Holt of The Telegraph explained that Kate’s use of bows is a sustainable way to update her wardrobe, allowing her to reimagine existing pieces. “A bow is a very democratic, universal way to do that,” she said.
