David Tennant, the former Doctor Who star, faced heavy criticism for his hairstyle at the BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday. The 54-year-old actor, nominated for Leading Actor for his role in Rivals, attended the ceremony in a stylish three-color puppy tooth suit with a burgundy trim. He paired the outfit with a silk burgundy shirt, a bow tie, and gold sunglasses, looking dapper on the red carpet.
However, it wasn’t his outfit that caught attention, but rather his sky-high hairstyle. Tennant sported a deep side part that led to a bouffant, which was accentuated on one side, drawing mixed reactions from fans.
Social media users quickly mocked the look. One fan posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Whoever styled his hair needs to be fired.” Other comments ridiculed the hair, though many acknowledged his overall appearance. One person remarked, “Face card is still gorgeous as always,” while another said, “His stylist usually eats, but they needed to put the gel down.”
The reactions ranged from humorous to critical. Some called it a “jump scare,” while others said it looked “atrocious” or “haunting.” Many fans expressed that the hair didn’t live up to his usual polished look, with one comment simply reading, “Jail for whoever did this to him.”
Despite the hair backlash, Tennant looked sharp in his suit. Unfortunately, both he and co-star Katherine Parkinson, nominated for Supporting Actress, left the ceremony empty-handed. Tennant, considered one of the favorites for the award, lost to Lennie James for his role in Mr. Loverman.
