Hailey Bieber is once again offering beauty advice, this time with a helpful tip for new moms: don’t make any drastic hair changes during the first year postpartum.
The model and entrepreneur, who welcomed her son Jack Blues Bieber in 2024, shared her thoughts after seeing a video from influencer Melody Miles. In the video, Miles expressed her desire to cut her hair short, inspired by Bieber’s bob, but she worried that the look wouldn’t suit her. Bieber commented on the video, encouraging Miles not to make major hair decisions right after giving birth. She wrote, “You would look stunning, but let’s hold hands and agree to not make any big hair decisions postpartum! Personally giving myself at least a year!”
Bieber’s advice is grounded in the reality that hair can undergo significant changes after pregnancy. Postpartum hair loss, which is linked to changes in hormone levels, is common for new moms and typically resolves within six to twelve months. According to the Cleveland Clinic, many women experience thinning hair or shedding during this time, making it important to give your hair time to recover before making any permanent changes.
The first year of motherhood is filled with adjustments, and some new moms may feel tempted to cut their hair for convenience. However, many commenters agreed with Bieber’s advice, sharing their own experiences and regrets. One user wrote, “Don’t make big decisions as a new mom! I had SERIOUS regret,” while another wished she hadn’t cut her hair, saying, “My biggest regret was the ‘mom chop.’ I wish I had kept my hair long.”
As for Bieber, it’s unclear whether she will make any bold hair changes this summer or fall. Having had her baby in August 2024, the coming months will reveal if she follows her own advice or decides to switch up her look.
Last year, Bieber also shared how she managed to hide her pregnancy during the early months. She explained to ABC News that she kept her pregnancy private for a while, as she didn’t show much until she was six months along. Despite the ability to keep it secret, Bieber admitted that she was eager to share the news, saying, “I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly. I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good.”
