A man’s decision to buzz his hair for the first time in a decade has taken social media by storm, drawing praise and comparisons to reality TV stars.
In a TikTok video shared by his wife, Alex Hazen, Matt is seen cutting off his long, curly hair—a style he had worn since the couple met in 2014. The video, captioned “POV: Your husband says, ‘I’m going to buzz my hair off,’” quickly went viral, receiving over 108,000 likes and sparking a wave of admiration for his bold new look.
Speaking to Newsweek, Hazen explained the motivation behind the dramatic change. “He was tired of styling his hair every morning for work,” she said. “He has naturally curly hair, and it grows really fast. We also just got a sauna, and he said his hair made him too hot, so he started thinking about buzzing it.”
But the haircut didn’t start off smoothly. “The first pass he made with the clippers, he immediately said, ‘This was a mistake,’ because he looked almost bald,” Hazen recalled. “I stayed calm and tried to be supportive because I could tell he was nervous.”
Her support paid off. Once the cut was finished, Hazen said she loved the result. “I think he looks so good,” she said, adding that he reminded her of Joey Essex, a contestant from Love Island UK, a show the couple watches together.
Matt, despite his initial hesitation, has grown to like the new style too. “He says he’s going to keep it through the summer,” Hazen said.
Their friends and family were shocked by the sudden change but impressed with how well he pulled it off. “He’s always had longer curly hair since our wedding, so everyone was surprised,” Hazen said. “But no one was surprised that he could pull it off—he’s just that kind of guy.”
