While promoting her new Netflix documentary Mañana Será Bonito, she said the change reflects a desire to be her most “natural and authentic and genuine” self. She also mentioned that the decision comes at a time when many big things are happening in her life and career.
Over the years, Karol G has made a habit of marking different phases of her journey with dramatic hair color changes. In 2019, she introduced pastel pink and purple tones in the music video for Tusa, her hit collaboration with Nicki Minaj. In 2020, she switched to teal — a look that became a defining part of her image during that period.
By 2022, the singer had moved on to cherry red hair, even updating her Instagram profile picture to resemble Ariel from The Little Mermaid. At the time, she tweeted, “I finally look a bit more like The Little Mermaid,” referencing the bold new style.
In 2023, Karol G adopted a pastel pink shade, which she revealed during an appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside Ana de Armas. A year later, in 2024, she attended the MTV Video Music Awards sporting blonde hair with dark roots.
