Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell are among a growing group of celebrities trading Hollywood for quieter lives overseas.
Ellen DeGeneres, 67, has continued to offer fans glimpses into her new life in the English countryside. The former daytime talk show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi, settled in the Cotswolds after leaving California last year. Since then, the couple has been making their new home more personal, including adding to their small farm.
“We got more chickens!” Ellen wrote in an April 1 Instagram video. “They’re still a bit ‘chicken’ but they’re warming up to their new home.” She also reassured fans that the chickens back in the U.S. are being cared for by a “chickensitter” and are excited to have “chicken cousins” abroad.
The comedian has also shared lighthearted moments from rural life, such as learning to row with Portia or riding a lawn mower for the first time. “Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower,” she captioned a May 4 post. “She was right.”
Fans have also noticed a change in Ellen’s appearance. After years of wearing platinum blonde hair, she now sports a darker brunette style—a transformation she first debuted last November.
Meanwhile, fellow former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell made a big move of her own. Earlier this year, she relocated to Ireland with her 12-year-old daughter, Clay.
“We chose Ireland and didn’t really know where to go,” she told Us Weekly in an interview published April 22. At first, she found a house online in Glengarry, but mold issues forced them to keep looking. Eventually, they settled in Howth, a seaside village near Dublin.
“There’s a great, great school there,” O’Donnell said. “Clay has done very well. And they were really welcoming.”
With both stars embracing new beginnings far from Hollywood, their updates reveal a desire for simplicity, privacy, and a fresh chapter.
