Pop star Charli XCX made a striking appearance at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night, stepping away from her sold-out Brat tour to embrace the evening’s theme, “Tailored for You,” with a gothic twist. She wore a dramatic three-piece suit by Ann Demeulemeester, featuring a sheer feathered skirt, cropped black jacket, and a feathered top. Her look was completed with sparkling pieces from Bucherer Fine Jewellery.
While her outfit leaned into rebellious tailoring and gothic style, Charli’s glam team softened the look with a romantic touch. Makeup artist Deanna Istanbouli said the goal was to balance raw and natural beauty with the elegance of the evening. “I love the contrast between a very glamorous event and raw, romantic glam,” she shared.
To achieve this, Istanbouli focused on luminous skin and glossy lips. She used Valentino Beauty’s V-Lighter for a radiant base and layered a pink nude lipstick with the brand’s new Puffer Gloss to create what she described as “romantic glossy lips.” Charli’s signature fluffy brows were shaped using Valentino’s Brow Trio Eyebrow Liner.
Hair stylist Nicholas Benns continued this theme of contrast. “I wanted the style to blur boundaries—elegant but undone, refined yet a little unruly,” Benns said. To echo the feathers in her outfit, he added feather ear cuffs, which also helped contour her face. He pulled two strands loose at the front and twisted the upper section of her hair back, giving the style a romantic yet sharp edge.
To maintain her signature tour look, Benns used TRESemmé’s dry texturizing spray for added volume and a bit of grit. “We didn’t steer too far from Charli’s core aesthetic; there is still a rawness, but more sophisticated,” he explained. The feather details and textured finish, Benns added, gave her a “dark romance” vibe—mystical and bold, like a creature from a fantasy tale.
Charli XCX’s 2025 Met Gala look captured the duality that defines her artistry—part ethereal, part rebellious, and entirely unforgettable.
