In Faizabad, the capital of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, the Taliban have issued a new decree banning men from shaving their beards or getting “Western-style” haircuts, according to Anhor.uz. The decree, reported by the “8 Sobh” news outlet, says these grooming styles violate Sharia law. Residents are urged to stop these practices immediately.
The order also restricts men’s movement at night, forbidding them from going out after 10 PM unless there is an urgent reason.
Women face stricter rules, requiring them to follow Sharia hijab standards whenever they leave their homes or visit markets.
The decree does not explain why these rules specifically target this region. However, similar bans on beard shaving have been enforced in other Taliban-controlled areas.
Previously, Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada signed a rule that requires homes to be designed so neighbors or passersby cannot see inside where women live.
