Michelle and Barack Obama are putting an end to divorce rumors by doing what they do best: showing up together as a strong couple. The former president and first lady were seen enjoying a date night in Georgetown, Washington D.C., on Saturday, April 19.
In a video shared on Instagram and obtained by TMZ, the Obamas were spotted dining at Osteria Mozza. According to the outlet, they were greeted with cheers and applause from other guests. Michelle wore a gray blazer with jeans and styled her long braids in a half-up ponytail. Barack wore a black jacket and gray trousers.
This public appearance is their first in months. Michelle had recently missed several major events, including Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration, which had fueled online rumors.
During a recent episode of the Work in Progress with Sophia Bush podcast, Michelle addressed the divorce speculation. She explained that many people struggle to understand personal decisions, especially when women choose to step away from public expectations.
“So much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself,” she said. “They had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
Michelle added that she has been focusing on what truly matters to her. “If not now, when?” she said. “Now is the time for me to start asking myself, ‘Who do I truly want to be every day?'”
