Demi Moore is ready to embrace aging with confidence.
The Substance actress has become famous for her long brunette hair, especially after experimenting with many hair transformations in films like Ghost and G.I. Jane. After so many changes, Moore admits she feels a deep connection to her hair.
“I have grown quite attached to my hair,” she told People in its World’s Most Beautiful issue, published on April 25. “From a certain point of having had no hair.”
Speaking about whether she would ever cut her signature locks again, Moore added, “I feel fairly connected to my hair in a different kind of way. There’s energy in hair, you know? But I never like to say never.”
One change she is happy to consider is letting her hair go gray—once she has enough of it.
“Oh, 100%,” the 62-year-old said. “I look at women who have that incredible gray, especially long, and I think it’s striking. I would definitely do it.”
However, she explained that she does not yet have enough gray hair to make a full transition.
“Mine’s like a smattering that makes my hair look murky,” she said. “I didn’t really start coloring my hair until I was, like, 55.”
Moore laughed as she admitted, “It’s more than it used to be,” and pointed to a family inspiration. “My great-grandmother on my mom’s side never had any gray—and she never cut her hair,” she shared.
This is not the first time Moore has spoken about aging. During the TIME100 Summit on April 23, she reflected on how society often misunderstands the process.
“I also have thought recently about this idea that aging and being old are not the same thing,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Somehow we’ve confused that, and aging actually is a tremendous gift.”
