Sophia Umansky, daughter of Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky, is speaking out about an alarming side effect she’s experienced while taking the weight-loss drug Mounjaro. About four months after beginning the medication, which is typically prescribed to help people with type 2 diabetes manage weight, Sophia shared her story on social media.
In a TikTok video posted on May 1, the 25-year-old revealed that she has been dealing with significant hair loss.
“I’m very lucky to have a lot of hair,” she said. “Because at the rate it’s falling out, I’ll be bald in about a week.”
Sophia explained that the hair loss had become especially noticeable over the past three to four weeks. To demonstrate the extent of the issue, she showed large clumps of hair in her bathroom sink and on the shower wall. Running her fingers through her hair, she pulled out several strands that fell to the floor.
“I believe this is a direct result of rapid weight loss from the medication,” she said, adding that poor nutrition may also be contributing to the problem. “I wasn’t focused on getting enough protein or vitamins when I started taking Mounjaro.”
Now, Sophia says she is trying to correct that by improving her diet and taking supplements to help slow the hair loss.
Other public figures have shared their own struggles with similar medications. Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, a former Big Brother UK contestant, revealed she had a dangerous reaction after using Ozempic, another GLP-1 drug, which she obtained through the black market.
“I’m not proud, but I bought Ozempic injections illegally,” she told Closer magazine. “I must have had a bad batch. For three days, I thought I was going to die. I was vomiting, had diarrhea, and kept passing out.”
Although she recovered, the experience left her shaken.
“Don’t do it,” she warned. “Your life is not worth losing just to lose weight. Never buy these drugs off the black market. You have no idea what’s in them.”
Both women’s stories serve as a reminder of the risks that can come with weight-loss medications, especially when not used with proper medical guidance.
