There is something special about a great bob hairstyle, especially when worn by a beloved celebrity. Gabrielle Union turned heads at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards on February 22 with a voluminous, bouncy bob that captured the spotlight.
Styled by her longtime hairstylist Larry Sims, Union’s look was described as a “Black Bombshell Barbie” moment. She paired the hairstyle with a sleek, beaded silver Monique Lhuillier gown inspired by the Empire State Building. Union called this her favorite look yet—and many agree.
Her bob hit just at the jawline and featured soft, flippy curls reminiscent of a 1960s or French bob. The hair was parted to one side, with curls partially covering one eye, adding a retro glam vibe. The style was full of volume and body, perfectly balancing classic and modern elements.
Makeup artist Tasha Reiko Brown gave Union a fresh, skin-focused look. She added subtle peach blush on her cheeks and lips, along with long, fluttery lashes, creating a soft and cheerful effect that complemented the springtime feel of the ensemble.
Earlier this year, Union also showcased a modern take on a retro bob at Paris Fashion Week. There, she wore an asymmetrical “Posh bob” alongside a sheer paneled dress, proving once again that short hairstyles can be both timeless and contemporary.
