Army Recruit Cuts 15 Years of Hair for Enlistment and Charity

by lily

Reynaldo Arroyo, 23, has cut his hair for the first time in 15 years as part of his preparation to join the U.S. Army—and to support a good cause.

In a video shared by the Salt Lake City Army Recruiting Battalion, Arroyo revealed his decision to donate his long hair before enlisting. “I moved out here to California and I’m just really excited to be enlisting in the Army,” he said. As for his hair, he added, “Some lucky little girl is going to get it.”

The video shows Arroyo smiling and laughing as a stylist uses scissors and clippers to remove his long locks. His hair will be donated to Locks of Love, a nonprofit that provides hairpieces for children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions like cancer or alopecia.

According to the recruiting battalion, Arroyo enlisted from the Missoula U.S. Army Recruiting Station as an 11X Infantryman with Airborne.

U.S. Army grooming standards require all recruits to have neatly trimmed hair that does not interfere with helmets, masks, or other gear. Arroyo’s haircut marks both the start of his military career and a generous act to help children in need.
