Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has revealed a new buzz cut during an online charity FIFA 20 tournament, joining the growing list of footballers embracing DIY haircuts during lockdown.
With barbershops closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, many players have taken hair matters into their own hands. Some, like Cristiano Ronaldo, turned to their partners for help, while others opted for simple, no-fuss buzz cuts using electric clippers.
Shaw, 24, showed off his freshly shaven head while participating in the Combat Corona charity tournament on Twitch. The event was organized to raise funds for NHS charities and other COVID-19-related causes. Other football stars involved included Gareth Bale, Paulo Dybala, Jordan Pickford, Mason Mount, and Kieran Tierney.
During the live stream, Shaw faced fellow England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek. While Shaw embraced the ‘zero all over’ haircut, Loftus-Cheek chose to keep his usual style. The two played two matches, with Shaw winning both—thanks in large part to virtual Lionel Messi, who dominated the game.
The event attracted over 275,000 viewers and raised more than £6,000 for charity. Loftus-Cheek also contributed after losing a friendly wager with Shaw.
As the football world continues to adapt to lockdown life, players like Shaw are finding new ways to stay connected with fans—and maintain their style.
