Definitely a favorite .” And indeed, the towering updo made a powerful statement.
Although Appleton didn’t reveal the exact method used to create the style, many suspect the look involved hair extensions due to its size and fullness. The bun’s shape has been compared to a “cinnamon roll” style—a coiled and twisted design that’s traditionally worn by ballerinas. In this case, it gave Kardashian a dramatic and elegant profile.
Fans quickly drew comparisons to Jennifer Lopez’s iconic updo from the 2002 film Maid in Manhattan, where Lopez’s character attends a gala in a strapless gown and a voluminous bun. The resemblance didn’t go unnoticed, with one Instagram comment reading: “It’s giving Maid in Manhattan and we are living for it.” Interestingly, Appleton also created Lopez’s similarly braided updo for the 2020 Golden Globes, linking the two stars with one standout hair artist.
Kardashian wore the head-turning style while in Paris for the trial surrounding her 2016 robbery. On May 13, she was photographed leaving the Palais de Justice in a powerful all-black ensemble. Her outfit included a double-breasted black blazer-dress by John Galliano with puffed shoulders and a plunging neckline.
